| Junior Member | How old was the youngest "professional" pilot that you flew with? Any bad experiences? (so I can do the opposite)

| Senior Member | Probably 27-28 or so. I'm sure there are younger here. I find the newer captain to be a lot easier to fly with. The guys who upgraded in the last 1-3 years still fly by the book. The guys who have been a captain for more like 10 years are always the first to say "here...this is a better (non standard) way to do that", and as a result are unpredictable in what they want. But that's not a side effect of age, its a side effect of something else.

| When I first upgraded to the lear my captain was 22 years old. Not even old enough for his ATP. Supposedly there is a provision that under 135 flying freight you can still be pic with the type rating but w\o your ATP. He was a very sharp stick. Good pilot. At the ripe old age of 23 he had 4000TT with 1100TPIC. Makes me feel old. |

| Flew with a 23yr old Beech Captain here at Colgan. He's now flying a 737 for a major and I believe he turned 24 recently. Super nice guy, had a lot of charm and was always friendly to everyone. |

| I'm due to upgrade here at Colgan before I turn 23. With that being said, with the industry slowdown- it probably wont be a problem. There is an age 23 waiver that needs to be signed off by both the state and feds. The Federal are the tough ones.

| Good luck with a waiver. I know PNCL holds to 23, therefore I wait..... We have quite a few 23yr old CA's here. Not many percentage wise but I would imagine at least a few in each base.

| One of the "FOs" I flew with just had upgraded to Captain right at 23 - she had to wait until she turned 23 to upgrade, she already held the seniority and had the company and FAA required flight time. Since she was a reserve captain and flying as an FO more than she was flying as a captain, I called dispatch and crew tracking to swap us so that she could start working on her 100 hours of PIC in type to get her off high mins. She knew her stuff and I didn't have any problems flying with her.

| Both the CA that I flew with today and I are 23. There was an 19yo in my indoc class...from what I hear he's the best pilot amongst all of us from the class .

| Hello, I've flown with many young and talented pilots while I was in the airline biz. Teller1900 spoke of one of CJC's pilots, G.K. and he was hired at 19 and is one of the best pilots I've ever flown with, certainly capable of command before 23 in my opinion. He recently moved onto to the "Q", so I wish him well! Age isn't a factor in flying...Training and Experience are the common denominator for a good pilot. |

| Who cares? He'll be at a major by the time he's 26. Smart kid.

I flew with him in HYA. His father is a US Airways pilot and taught him to fly the way the airlines want him to. His procedures were flawless and he was a lot more mature as a pilot than his 19 years would lead to believe. | |

| Senior Member | I'm probably one of the youngest Captains at my company at 25. Maybe even the youngest. I have flown with an 18 year old FO. Imagine the comments we got.

| I'm actually in Q training with him in Toronto. G.K. was also my sim partner for initial in the 1900. He was a great sim partner and very capable of doing this job regardless of his age. Here in systems class he understands systems and the ''book knowledge'' way better then I do. |
