Default Thank you to those in Colgan Management

Starting June 1st, Beech Captains will be receiving Saab Captain pay based on their longevity.

Even though I am going to the Q at the end of May...

Thank you.

I would think good. . . so long as these pay rates are correct:

That's because the most of the Beech guys are moving up to the Saab when they go away. might as well start paying them now!

It would be more logical if they weren't going to let them go to the Saab with the higher pay.

Either mgt could give them Saab pay now with the understanding that they are locked in until the 1900 goes away, OR mgt could let them go to the Saab when they are able to bid that way (and pay them the Saab rate of course) AND then have to upgrade FO's to cover the vacancies AND have to hire/train more FO's for an airframe that is going away.

I bet it's cheaper to do it the first way, but they are spinning it as a "kinder, gentler" management team.

Colgan management don't give anything up for nothing. I see seatlocks coming and they don't want to deal with bypass issues.

I think it might be an "Oops. The pilot group is angry at us. Let's throw money at them so they forget about this when the ALPA vote comes back around."

Looks like they are already trying to replace you Mark...

Colgan Air will be attending the FltOps Career Fair in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 16th and is now hiring direct entry captains for the Beech 1900 and Q400 and first officers for the Beech 1900, Saab 340 and Q400.
To apply, please email resume to Cathy Angelo at pilots@colganair.com or visit our booth at the career fair.
So are they trying to move the current Beech captains to a different aircraft and then bring in cheaper street captains??

Yep, no FOs on the Beech have 1500 hours of total time so they really can't upgrade them.

If I was a Slaab FO I would upgrade in the Beech, get the type, then move over to Slaab Captain come November.

That's interesting. I knew that Beech captains could upgrade to Saab captains but I didn't know that Saab FO's could become Beech captains.

Also, is Colgan hiring or not? Some things I see say they are, some say they are not.

Sure... give a big raise to the smallest portion of your pilot group. In the memo they pretty much said they couldn't get street CA's for the 1900, and fo's wouldn't upgrade into it. this will hopefully convince some to take it.

Actually, they tried the same tactic with FOs over here......

They already did that with FO's here... of course i was never able to take advantage of it.

If you ask me, the company was stupid about street CA's. All Street CA's should have gone to the junior airplane... the 1900. Instead they hired into all 3 aircraft. That would be fine, but the requirements for all a/c were the same. Who would take a 1900 job when they could land a seat in the Q? base pay on the Q is more than a line holder in the 1900 could ever earn... So where would you rather go sit reserve.

Now, As a street CA in the 1900, you get a line, and you get starting pay of $41 an hour (or close to it) You will probably block 90 hours, and make more than sitting reserve on the saab, and close to what you would make sitting reserve on the Q.

Funny, but
Here's to Colgan Raising the bar those 1900 divers now make more per seat than anybody else in the airline game.

I just got an automatic email saying something about upcoming open houses and hiring street capts into all 3 airplanes, and FOs for all 3 airplanes too. So I would venture to say they are hiring for the moment.

^ Sarcasm slightly intended...

But, to be perfectly honest... In the last 2 years, FO's have received a raise, Be1900D CA's got a raise, we've gotten uniform allowance, a commuter policy, Block or better, MX pay (despite what other may, or may not have said) , Hot reserve etc... We don't have a contract, that is a given. Yes all this stuff can disappear, but they know what will happen if suddenly all that is good gets rescinded. I agree we have to get the Q pay rates up... But in a time where everybody is talking recession, shrinking and closing up shop... Colgan is taking small steps in the right direction, and growing.

I understand that Pinnacle Management runs Colgan, but seriously, 98% of the issues i hear people complaining about... Is Crew Scheduling stuff. If they got their act together, or we got Hub Bases... Dare i say, Colgan could be a decent place to work?

I wasn't trying to put it down like that... it's still good changes! It's just not the highest 1900 pay in the nation.

Congrats on the changes, just realize that there's still room to move up...

Great. You guys get provided crew meals. We get a phantom "vending machine" with fruit in a crew room somewhere.

Actually thinking about this more. It seem like a pre-ALPA vote suck up, so that all the natives are happy and won't vote or vote "yes". There's still gonna be a vote isn't there?
