| Okie dokie. Here's the scoop. I was hired in October. Been on the line since Mid-January. Apparently some of the peeps senior to me bid RESERVE lines this month. Which means.. this months.. I'm a lineholder? Whoa. That's cool. So now, I have a built schedule on a Composite a full month in advance. It's got 90 hours of flying in it and average 4 days on/3 days off all month long. The overnights don't look that bad at first glance either but I haven't looked at the sequences yet. Just in case anybody was curious how the life at Eagle was after a few months. Oh, it's a composite line, too, but apparently there's enough time to fill the damned thing. No reserve days on the HI2 as far as I can see. Note: No prior experience, so if anybody's got a word of wisdom or two to avoid steppin' on my crank I'd appreciate it.

| Congrats man... always a good feeling the first time you see you have a line and know what you are going to be doing for the next month...

| Old Skool | Two things, and neither of them good. But just so it doesn't sound like I am raining on your parade... congrats. 1) At least here, having a line does not protect you from scheduling screwing with your schedule. You probably are pay protected, will still get bounced around. 2) A line this month does not a line next month guarentee. I was on reserve for 15 months. In that time period I held 2 build ups and 1 hard line before never seeing reserve from the right seat again. All that said... have fun actually having a schedule. |

| It depends on the airline, not all airlines have composite lines. When you bid for a composite line, usually there is no set schedule. After all the lines are awarded, then planning/scheduling will build a schedule for composite lineholders using any remaining open time or trips that were taken off a lineholder's line because they aren't available to fly their scheduled trips due to known unavailabilities like vacation, recurrent training, etc. Some other places call them mixed lines, where you do have kind of have a schedule but you also have reserve days mixed in between your trips and days off.

| Here at SkW a composite line means that you are considered a lineholder for trip trades (you can trade with other lineholders) and there will be some scheduled trips along with some reserve days. Here, if you're a lineholder, (unless Jerry decides to put his boot on my neck . . .sorry I just can't help it ) they can't mess with your schedule and you are pay protected. We do have reflow sometimes, but very rarely. I have been displaced for IOE (someone training during my assigned flights) and have picked up trips over the same time for 2x the pay.

| Senior Member | composite/buildup/relief lines are just senior reservists. get excited when you can hold (with your own seniority without people bidding down) a line with more than the minimum days off. |

| Old Skool | Heh. We've got guys in the upper part of our seniority list that got jacked down to 10 days off. Problems of running an understaffed airline and PBS....

I took me three months to learn how to work the reserve system to my advantage. Now I'm going to do the composite line dance. Mind you, it's not gold, just proof that I'm moving up the food chain, which is nice. Plus, I thought all those hired on after me would like to know "HOW LONG ON RESERVE??" actually has an answer.

Here, let me get my hat so you can take a dump in it. I'm sorry mommy never loved you, man, but you gotta lighten up. Your FAs must cringe when the PA chime goes off. Sheesh. ![]()

| Old Skool | And so you attack right back? This bickering crap is a two way street. Toughen up, and let things bounce off of you. I was interviewing for an oil rig job a couple of months ago. One of the questions the interviewer asked was "you are going to be working on a rig in a fairly remote area for three weeks at a time. How are you going to handle disagreements and arguments that WILL arise?" Mind you I didn't get the job (that I know of) but my answer went like this: I'm a pretty easy going guy, and in an environment like that you have to let all of that just bounce off of you. But if it absolutely came to it, its all about having a professional respect for the other guy. They were hired by the same standards you were, and they can do the job just as capable as you. I know times are rough for a lot of the airline pilots out there right now, I know you have some disagreements, but at least show a professional respect for the other guy. I have my doubts on how some of you get along with each other and get the job done for 4 days, say nothing of three weeks living with the other guy. You know how your mother used to say "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all"? I think a lot of you need to ask that same question before you post on here.

| Senior Member | Haha, nice. If I put a "congrats" in there it would have been the same post as the other one you replied to. Instead I get personal attacks? I was going to reply to this but decided its not worth my time. |

| I had the #1 Eagle FO at Chicago on the jumpseat one day. She had been there 10 years. All I could say was "sorry".

| Old Skool | I won't share the PM that you sent, other than it was very distasteful, nor waste my time responding to it more than what I'll write here. I wrote that in response to the entire airline pilots forum, now just you. So many people are slinging insults directed at each other that it is just ridiculous. Some of the blame lies with you, some others, heck I don't sing kuym-by-yah all the time, but calling someone a "poopy face" on an internet forum, brings us as a whole abso-freaking-lutey nowhere.
