Default 900s invading ATL

Noticed the other day that Mesaba has started coming to ATL. Combine that with SKW, PCL, Freedom, Mesa and Comair there are alot of 900s running around these days, with more to come. The NW mainline guys can't be happy about this...

Boeing is still delivering airplanes to Delta for mainline growth and their international expansion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Delta folks would like it that much either. The only company that is letting us (RAH) get away with it is US Airways. Frontier didn't seem to care either, although I don't think we had any 86 seaters with them, just under the same certificate.

Which airline is going to be most attractive to NWA/DAL? I would gamble and say probably one who has a fuel efficient AC..... Perhaps one with E170/175s......

Hey Marcus I was jumpseating doing an observation flight on one of our (Mesaba) 900s on Sunday and we went to ATL and back. I wondering if you were working that day. I saw a lot of ATR's go by.......

Like Mesaba or RAH. When this merger is finalized and they get to the regional rationalization process I see either us buying Compass and doing all their 170/175 feed or I see Delta canceling our contract, buying all of our planes (per the contract if they cancel), and letting compass do all the 170/75 flying. If and when they merge they will have:

Comair
ASA/Skywest
Shuttle/Chautauqua
Express Jet
Pinnacle
Mesaba
Compass
and a couple more that I know I am missing...

A replacement jet is a replacement jet. The 50-seaters are just as distasteful being outsourced as the 76-seaters.

Eh, I would vote NO on outsourcing it, but it's not quite the same as the jet outsourcing. You can't fly a Q400 from MSP to JAX. Its usefulness is limited to about 300 miles or so. Not really mainline territory for the most part.

I hope I am too. I guess the first step would be to actually get the parties involved in the same room. The journey of a thousand miles....

So who owns your 170/175s for DAL? You all own them but if they cancel DAL has to purchase them? You are right and I think a lot would agree.... it'll be RAH purchasing Compass and taking over a mass of the DAL flying.... or DAL perhaps even purchasing those planes and doing their flying in house..... who knows... Actually i think someone had commented about that in a different post on Horizon.... The Q400 and therefore Alaska picking up their flying again... Maybe DAL would buy them and keep em and do the flying..... I dont think any of us would expect that but never know.

Yes we own the planes and if Delta decides to cancel we have the option to make them buy the planes from us.

Here is a snip from our SEC filings
Quote:
Delta may partially or completely terminate its code-share
agreement with respect to the ERJ-135/145 aircraft, with or without cause, on
180 days written notice at any time after November 2009, and may partially or
completely terminate its code-share agreement with respect to the ERJ-170
aircraft, with or without cause, on 180 days written notice at any time after
July 2015. If Delta exercises this right under either agreement or if we
terminate either agreement for cause, we have the right to require Delta either
to purchase, sublease or assume the lease of aircraft leased by us with respect
to any of the aircraft we previously operated for Delta under that agreement.
So who knows what will happen, only time will tell.. It is just a matter of scope and if Delta thinks they can operate them for cheaper. If the Delta boys get their scope fixed Delta may have a new fleet of 170/175s. Anyways... back to the 900s invading!!

That's debatable. Airways used to fly to 9 different NC airports out of Charlotte. All with 737s or bigger.

Please do. I'd much rather be flying that 76 seater in a Delta paint scheme for DELTA rather than a regional contractor....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are not these CRJ-900s aka the CRJ-705? The 75-seat CRJ9 airframe?

MAG's 900s for Airways are 86-seaters, but I didn't think the others were.

Yup I flew on Sunday between 7am til 3pm. If you passed by an ATR just sitting on the taxiway on the way to 26L that was me
