Default Seniority Displacements!

Okay, well the word swirling around Republic is "Seniority Displacements".

of any force surplus requiring a reduction in the number of pilots in
a particular status, equipment or base.
3. A pilot holding an award in the surplus status, equipment or base
will be displaced in inverse order of seniority.
7.3
4. Displaced pilots, in order of seniority, will be afforded the following
options:
a. A captain may displace the most junior pilot in the same
status and equipment type in the system.
b. A larger jet captain who is unable to displace a junior captain
in the same equipment type may displace the most junior jet
captain in smaller jet equipment in the system.
c. A captain who is unable to displace to another captain
position may displace the most junior pilot in first officer
status, in the same equipment type in the same base, or, if
unavailable, the most junior pilot in first officer status, in the
same equipment type in the system.
d. A first officer who is displaced may displace the most junior
first officer in the same equipment type in the system.
e. A first officer may displace a pilot in another equipment type,
if there is no junior first officer in the same equipment type in
the system.
E. Seniority Displacement
1. A more senior pilot, in eligible status, may elect to be displaced
rather than a more junior pilot being involuntarily displaced. In such
case, the more senior pilot will notify Crew Planning of his desire for
a voluntary displacement. A pilot exercising seniority displacement
shall exercise the same displacement rights of the junior pilot who
would have been displaced.
a. A pilot who elects seniority displacement will be entitled to
the benefits of Article 5 (Moving Expenses).
b. Seniority displacement will only be allowed in bases where
actual reductions occur. Seniority displacements may not
exceed the number of reductions.

So according to the contract, us Junior guys will be screwed in addition to the DEN guys. If the contract is followed, just about everyone from my new hire class will be displaced from our current bases and either placed somewhere else or on another certificate. Meaning, we'd have to go back through training. This is what sucks about having 3 certificates.

According to the companies interpretation of the contract, they will place the DEN pilots (50CA's, 50FO's) where there are vacancies. They published the Vacanies and PHL has 8. So either I will get kicked out of PHL ( ) or I will Reserve forever in PHL. I'd rather sit reserve at home, but we'll see what happens. Hopefully the company will let the DEN guys choose where they want to go and we have enough vacancies to keep us junior guys from getting the boot.

Gotta love this industry! I'm taking my camera to work everyday, never know when the next flight will be the last!

Ya know, it is a bummer all around. My buddy who is senior to you 'was' in DEN (lives here too) with Republic. Now he will be commuting somewhere out East and enjoying a vastly different lifestyle.

I feel your pain, but remember someone usually has it worse than you.

Absolutely. I wouldn't want to screw the senior folks in DEN. Which is why I *hope* (fingers crossed) that those guys get to go where they want and that we have enough room at those bases to keep us junior guys here as well.

Thanks for your deep thoughts. Yes, we here at RAH also do understand the industry as well.

I expect RAH to be out west soon enough...in the meantime, we'll just move out here to CMH.

Enjoy CMH..... great city..... Perhaps RAH will be out west.... Interesting you expect that though; since nothing else is appearing to lead us to think that..... Insider information eh? Or are you one who cant wait for MESA to fall and hope to take over their flying and not worry about those who are displaced from their jobs?

Agreed 100%! Which is why I hope the DEN guys are treated fairly and just maybe us junior folks will luck out and the biggest inconvenience we'll experience is longer reserve time, which is okay with me.

Apparently the company has used their own interpretation of the contract in the past. Hopefully things go well for all involved. Could be worse!

Maybe you will get put on at CHQ and can come fly a real plane with the real pilots of Republic!

Express has bases in Newark, Cleveland, Houston, San Antonio, Ontario and LAX, looks to me like they have bases on the east coast, in the middle of the country, and on the west coast.

Too bad our seniority system fell apart also and we had guys get screwed by the company.

Stop worrying so much, there is nothing any of us can do about it. I think all of us have thought about being furloughed or just plain out terminated and I have come to the conclusion that I will just go back to bar tending and sitting around all day drinking beer until the industry rebounds. I will probably make more money and maybe even be able take up my second life long dream of brewing my own beer. Its my last day off of 6 and I need to get to drinking...

And jtrain what the hell is your avitar all about? Is that you? Let me guess, thats a MESA pilot sleeping on the plane on a short overnight.

I like your attitude! I need to get off this damn internet and just enjoy the chance to go fly. The cards will fall where they may. If I get put on the street, I have a feeling I'll be back in uniform with Uncle Sam. Honestly, that was the only time in my adult life where I didn't worry about anything, except what kind of SAR mission we'd be on during the storm or what gun I need to tote on a boarding.

I miss the Government treatment. Good salary, housing money allowance based on cost of living, food allowance, job protection and free health benefits. As long as you can tolerate relocating (at the governments expense mind you) every 4 years, it really is the best life you could have in today's economy.

It sounds like from what you said that IF you didn't have 3 certificates, that your butt would be on the street. You low time guys (who shouldn't even be at the airlines, but that's a whole other topic) should just shut up and be lucky to even be where you are. Sucks to be you to have to be on reserve for awhile and not be able to pick up all the open time you want.

If is sucks so bad, go back to CFIing which you should have been doing anyway.

Oh boy.

Be nice. This is the first down turn many of these guys have seen. Whether they should be there or not, try to remember back to when you were a newbie and didn't have a nice DC8 (or what ever) and a bunch of guys below you protecting you from the unknown.

WOAH? What did he say to set you off? First of all when he was hired he wasnt a CMEL wet.... 2ndly its your thoughts and you are entitled to it but who gives you the right to tell him he should shut up (some of the most disrespectful words out there)? 3rdly The industry has changed... IF ANY OF YOU would say you would not have taken a job at lower times you are a fool and liar..... You came into an industry to do something. Its not the fault of the ones being hired that the bar was lowered due to need. I also know for a fact back in the day those legacy carriers were PAYING for you to go to training. An ole TWA ad had it where they would pay for you to get trained and fly. If you are younger then those days fine but just because you are at UPS or shall I assume you are there dont go back and complain about the way the industry has changed. Lastly many of us who have been hired recently arent even on and or in the union. We cant help change things but you all who are could and should! If you have issues with how the industry is how about we keep silent at those who benefited and make a change..... However to come on and tell him to shut up is just wrong. You should be a role model because if you are indeed at UPS you are in a position a lot of people and those who are starting out on this forum look up to as role models.... Therefore act like one....

Lastly and finally i see you are new... welcome aboard..... I personally look forward to hearing more of what you offer to this site... And know for a fact many others do as well. Keep in mind you are in a position many look up to......
