Default Raincoat?

Do you use a raincoat or is it not really necessary? Contemplating buying one or not...

Yes, I do have one.

When you are flying a real man's airplane you need one to not freeze your arse off and get the flu standing outside in the cold weather with -15 degree windchill waiting for the pax to board, or having to warm the plane up when it has been cold soaked in 5 degree weather with no wimpy aircart or APU.

Everyone else doesn't have to deal with what I do though.

Oh, I am sure this will be brought up in this thread so I am going to say it now...

I'm rockin' the trench this winter and I've found it's incredibly valuable when flying around up north in the winter. I look like a flasher on overnights (I don't pack another jacket with me right now), but I'm not exactly Mr.GQ trying to pick up chicks on my overnights.

The raincoat is the most useless piece of uniform clothing I own.

As an FO you'll definitely need one, as a CA not so much.

I rarely use mine.

If you often find yourself outside freezing your keester off, get one.

If you don't, well don't!

I wear mine every day during the winter and have it with me any time it looks like there's a good chance of precip during the summer. It gets more use than any other uniform piece, I'd say (save for the shoes, I suppose).

LOL the 50/50 rule...

I use my Peacoat from the Navy. Nice and warm, keeps the snow and rain out.

Eh, hey man when you are a CA, you can have this attitude too. I know alot of guys who do this and I dont blame them. Its my responsibility for the walk around and when its crap out, I don't blame the CA for staying inside. Im sure when they were in our shoes they did alot of walk arounds in the snow and rain and slush....and stuff lol.

You know, I will say that I used my raincoat religiously while I was at Skyway. No APU, standing outside every leg emplaning and deplaning passengers, walk arounds in the snow... I was rarely in the terminal at all.

You are in for a big shocker when you transition..the Q is the most sissy plane going and is a CTRL-ALT-DEL prop in every sense of the word. There is plenty of pushing a button and watching it and going..."is it going to do it?" and being ready to say screw it and dial up the VORs and handfly if it doesnt.

on the raincoat...I do not bring it since it is too bulky to pack and I dont want to carry it around. I just got a crashpad though that I havent been to yet and it includes a 10 minute walk through jersey so I think i will need to give it a go. On the walkarounds I carry a travel umbrella that fits inside the 3 rings in my FOP manual.

I wear mine everyday.

I had a wool trench coat until a Saab Check Airmen told me to get rid of it or he was going to call Brink on me.

With that being said- GET THE DOUBLE BREASTED! Single looks like shyt!

I have the uniform raincoat and it's very comfortable and warm. The only time I HATE it is on layovers when 2-4 of you are all wearing it into a restaurant. It looks pretty lame then!
I'll be the witness to USMC-SGT not wearing one. He probably froze crossing the street in ALB but you know those Marines!

Acually if you were flying a real man's airplane you wouldn't be waiting for people to get on.

We don't even wait for riders/ jumpeaters to get on!

I'm tellin' you guys - Airnet is the best place to jumpseat. Show up a few minutes before the flight, stand outside while the freight is loaded (or help load it!), the guys start the engines as you are getting in and are taxiing as the door is being closed.

No security, no gate agents, no fuss. Any of you CASS guys should jump an airnet flight just for fun.
