Default I earned my money tonite

End of a 4 day trip included a 3 hr sit in IAH, then a Tucson turn and I am done. Easy right? HAHA. Not so. We depart IAH and make our way down to TUS no prob. Weight restriction, a reroute, more gas, and some pushy gate agents let to a pseudo-late departure. But thats ok. We are on our way right? Well, the reroute took us south, over Elpaso, San Antonio, Corpus and then the Gland3 arr into Bush. Well, somewhere around Elpaso we went on vectors, first left then right. Then left again, then right again. We pretty much hugged the Mexican US border. Anyone who has looked at the Texas radar tonite knows whats up. There was a line of weather that stretched from the Austin, SAT area all the way up north, over Dallas, houston, Shreveport and further north. Noone was getting in from the east or the north. West arrivals went way south before coming back up the coast on a made up/ghetto style arrival. Somewhere over CRP we got direct to Aggit int, dir Hobby. My leg and atis showed winds 170 at 22g30. Mod turbulence all the way down. It was by far the worst weather Ive been in to date. We landed 8R at IAH with flaps 22, and Ive never been happier to be down. Kudos to my capt...she let me do it all. I asked if she wanted to take it when we were on the arrival. She responded with "you are trained to do this right?" I guess I was as I pulled it off Anyways, thought Id share. I am in the process of working on a 6 pack of "soda"........Watching the lightening and heavy rain outside. Waiting for the power to go out. Hope everyone whos flying down here is safe, and/or on their A-game. You need it tonite.

Congratulations on getting the job done. If this is your first year in IAH, wait until summer....that's when it really gets fun.

Wasn't that fun last night? Looks like you held over DLF as well, at one point we counted 7 other aircraft holding at once over that fix. We were coming back from PSP and I've never been so glad to have ordered extra fuel.

Then we got to IAH, loaded up for LCH....and I timed out

I felt bad that nearly 100 people going to LCH (2 flights CX) got stuck, then I saw online that they had a 737-500 going into LCH about 1 am after the front went through. They really took care of those passengers! Mad props to those pilots, they flew a LOC BC approach in heavy rain, right down to mins.

(For those not familiar, CAL serves Lake Charles with only regional jets and Saab T-Props. The 737 was an unscheduled flight.)

Yeah, Ive done 29 a couple times. Never with 40 kt winds though. Spicy I am sure.

Yeah, last night was a scheauuuu! We got in right before things really got bad on the field. I got to my car and the skies opened. Lightening, hard rain, and winds. We took an extra 1000 lbs of gas, flew at long range cruise, and still landed with 2.4. We never held, but were getting vectored all over the sky. The controller wanted full bank turns at fl350. He said we needed to keep things tight to get everyone lined up. It was a real mess. I saw the lineup over by 15l/r and it didnt look pretty. I was glad to be headed home to my apartment. The crew tracker met us at the gate. Looked like my capt got napped to go to an overnight. And she didnt even have an overnight bag. It was supposed to be just a turn for her......

The area that you fly in is t-storm prone but a beautiful are nonetheless. Deviations and the such will become a part of your regular profile. The experience that you recieve now will be a part of your mentality and decision making profile as you advance in this profession. Learn well and keep killing snakes along the way!

JTFC you ain't jokin' bro. I did that one for the first time with like 102 hours in the airplane at night. It looked pretty interesting up front and the poor folks in the back must have thought they were going to die.

That is why I always pack for at least three days worth of work when I go fly a turn. When these things happen (and they inevitably do, Murphy's Law and all), then it's not as big a deal.

Every time I had the chance to, we ate the crosswind instead of circling. I hate EWR...

In that case, I question the masculinity of Brazillian avionics desginers.

It's not pink, it's MAGENTA, remember!
