Default FA Jumpseaters

My airline has agreements with several other airlines that allow reciprocal jumpseating (in the back only... we aren't talking about flight deck jumpseats).

Are FAs supposed to check in with the captain to request a ride? To the request a ride from the head/lead/forward/number one FA? Anybody else deal with this? We had one tonight and she did introduce herself to our FA but didn't really request a ride, but rather said, "they gave me a seat".

Just to throw fuel on the fire she was a JetBlue FA too.

I think they are supposed to. When I was jumpseating on Jetblue, there was a United FA jumpseating, he went and introduced himself to the capt. and even brought baked goodies. We dont allow FA jumpseaters so i really dont know what the proper etiquette is for them. Best person to ask is probably their union.

I can tell you at Southernjets they are technically ID100's and processed as non-rev's. They are still referred to by most as "jumpseaters", probably because the ride is free.

So they are not REQUIRED to check in with the crew, but it's nice to know they're there.

AirTran allows FA jumpseaters, but all of them are required to stop by and get a signature from the Captain. As it should be.
