Default Colgan Closing an Outstation

Heard it right from the woman who makes the calls- Dot Chaplin...

NORFOLK closing.

Will be serviced by Saab crews from New York's La Guardia.

So it is true... that's really too bad for the guys that are based there, I heard it was a great base.

Have also heard that ALB and HPN are closing as Beech bases. My guess is that Saabs will take over those routes. I hear it could happen in January. Anyone know if/when BOS will open as a base.

It is Pinnacle management making the calls, not really surprising. Only a matter of time before they officially close PVD, ITH, MHT and crew it out of ALB, LGA, and MAYBE SYR. This does not include the IAD base they will open up early next year.

I am getting ready to be displaced in January. Going to be extremely difficult, it would be financial suicide to open a crashpad in HYA, hope they do the right thing and provide accommodations for us and/or bypass pay.

Mattio, did you fly with MQ and end your trip in LGA today?

Fuel to the fire....rumot around here is that Colgan SOC people were in MEM a few weeks ago, and Pinnacle is shopping for more office space in MEM.

ORF closing would be hilarious!

Why you ask?

Because some of the most vocal ANTI-ALPA people are based in......yep, you guessed it.....ORF!

If this turns out to be true, bet they will have wished they had voted for a voice in their future.

Makes me wonder which one is really the next one...?

My guess would be MHT and ITH. Good maybe if we go to hub basing I can hold a line in LGA. Looks like another month of RSV in Ithaca for me!

Oh Oh I think I know who it is! Is he old and crusty???

Just playing devils' advocate though, would having ALPA really of changed Pinnacle's plans to close these outstations? I highly doubt it.

I wonder how this will effect AWAC.

I think Brink may have mispoke today during the Colgan Pilot's weekly Conference Call, but he said AWAC is pulling out too.

But I seriously think he mispoke.

No, you're absolutely correct on that. Having ALPA would not affect these types of changes.

HOWEVER......the problem with the ANTI-ALPA people was the fact they were buying into the nonsense the company was putting out about NO CHANGES to the way our company operates. And were very vocal about how good the company is, how they wouldn't lie to us, how things are staying the same, the purchase/ sale was just a capital investment, etc.

It was obvious to me, and many others, it was just BS to appease the pilot group......of course things were going to change (PCL Holdings didn't purchase our airline to continue to run it as a Mom/Pop airline). In fact, things haven't STOPPED changing in months (duh).....and I'd be willing to put a paycheck on the fact that things are going to continue to change (any takers?).

The bottom line is management said whatever they could to persuade enough people to not vote/ vote no.....and it worked. Unfortunately, 50% of us didn't believe the lies.......sooooo, here's to Aug. '08 and another shot to get it right this time. Perhaps, with enough 'changes', the ANTI-people will finally 'see the light' and vote for representation next time around.

(Yes, there are a couple old/ crusty's in ORF......and they're all in the ANTI-house....)

Are those recorded at all? Or do they have minutes published?

Never heard any recordings of the calls. It's hit or miss on the minutes getting published....even if they do get posted, it's typically an abridged version of the call. I doubt anything about AWAC would get printed (true or not).

If the reason (or at least one of the big ones) that the ALPA vote lost was that management promised that things would stay status quo, and things have been changing like crazy since the vote, wouldn't the next ALPA vote be pretty much a guaranteed slam dunk?

Trust me, we thought the ALPA vote that ended in August was going to be a slam dunk win.

i know i'm kinda a tool for saying this because i left this month, but anyone still at colgan reading this should probably just take colonel clink's advice

"if you don't like it, leave"

there are plenty of other places to fly with quick upgrade times and if enough guys leave it might force pinnacle/colgan to pay attention to you guys and stop stuffing it in ur pooper. in reality i just want to see the company swirl the drain and in the middle of the night i'll steal 60MJ for myself. God i miss the beech

2 weeks w/o flying and i'm turning into a mess, i'm about to go rent a cessna!

you'll enjoy this, i sat at the bar the day before with a guy from class who has no cfi or anything, just a 480 hour with a comm multi saying he was surprised that we didn't have moving maps on the saab. he said it once waiting for some sort of grunt of approval from the rest of us and then said it again... this thing has fms, autopilot and gps and he's whining. after you stop laughing, think for a second how your gonna feel when you goto republic and you're classmates are wringing their hands about ndb approaches because they didn't think real airline pilots shot those and they can't figure out if they can autopilot couple it for the checkride.

*rolls eyes*

The only good thing about Colgan possibly closing outstations is that maybe just maybe it will lead to some negotiations to raise pay and QOL.

What I mean is that there are basically only two reasons people apply to Colgan, 1 is upgrade times and 2 is outstation basing if they lose outstation basing which is typically the number one reason people come here then who will apply?

Colgan is trying to fill a TON of seats this year and they certainly wont do it with our work rules, pay scales and hub and spoke basing, they are going to need an ace in the hole and hopefully it will be to our benefit. They need around 2 classes of 10 FOs per month for the Q and I dont know how it will happen. I hope it works out for everyone involved

It is funny how each of the 19hondos have their own 'personality'.

It looks like Snuggle and I are doing the lease return of LVZ (you know the one that has been in pieces for the past four months) to ICT tommorow. Should be fun!
