Delta's shopping:

http://www.ajc.com/business/content/...elta_1107.html

Who? Despite all the chat about DAL/NWA, that appears to be a feint to draw attention away from the real candidate.

Gerald Grinstein told a DAL PIC seminar (his comments in red):

1. Delta wants to be the biggest carrier in LAX. To do that, you need West Coast feed.

2. Western Airlines was ahead of its time. They had the West Coast but stripped it for their E/W service, just as AA did to Air Cal/Reno and USAir did to PSA.

3. The best merger candidate for Delta was Alaska Airlines.

We shall see.

This is my crazy theory (warning airliners.netish moment coming up)

Delta wants to expand internationally out of LAX to Europe (because of the money $$$). They might be starting their SLC-CDG service to see what cities offer the most connecting passnger traffic to that flight. Once they see, then they can expand internationally out of LAX, I mean international is where the money is.

my measly .02 airliners.netish idea

Delta does a LOT of outsourced MX at the TOC in ATL.

Thus diversifying the income stream. Not a bad move.

Delta is also converting all CRJ-700's to have a first class configuration! Just thought I'd toss that one out there. I told Max about it in Vegas. Comair is in the running to do the reconfiguring to all Delta owned CRJ-700 with our MRO.

More smokescreen. The CFM-56 family of engines is also the engine of choice for Boeing airplanes.

No, probably in a 900 model, that has only 76 seats and is called a 705!

I think Southernjets only waved the wand over -700's and -900's.

Yeah, but those are the -3 and -7 engines. The -5 is an Airbus engine.

I think the point was made that its probably more to generate maintenance business than an indicator of a possible merger partner.

That's gonna be a TIGHT squeeze in a -700. They aren't reducing any seating, but adding a first class cabin? I feel sorry for the folks in coach....

Perhaps FC will just have some of those seatback covers that say "This is First Class"!

Our -900 is a 76 seater and has 12 FC and 64 coach. Same room in coach as on an 86 and 90 seater.

I was mistaken on the seating config for the -700. It will be 6 FC and 60 coach. I had to go back and read the e-mail.

Now that makes sense. The carriers that fly the United Explus CRJ-700s have this type of configuration I believe.
