This is an official government run election. I don't think we need a poll to see who voted as it is illegal.

I think we should encourage the folks to vote though!

No but they are run by an official polling organization/media group, not jetcareers.com

We want folks to vote and not feel intimidated the way they vote and feel the need to post it on here.

What's an "official polling organization/media group"? "newsmedia" is pretty loosely defined these days, I'm certain JC would qualify.

Sorry bro, but your objections just don't make sense. I'm interested in an anonymous poll to see what the trend is. I can't see how this jeopardizes the vote or would possibly intimidate anyone.

ok, it's an anonymous poll as you can't see who voted on it or who didn't....so it really doesn't mean anything cuz anyone on the site (even those who are not SKW) can vote (if they really want to)...

I voted "yes"!

Well if non-SkyWest pilots are gonna vote (KRISTIE!), let's just lock the thread. I wanted a straw poll to see how the vote might be going, based on the random sample of SKYW pilots we have here.

Call me pessimistic, but this ALPA vote has very little chance of passing.
I know several FO's there and all are voting no.

All they see is 2% being taking away from their pocketbook and multiple airlines with ALAP that have contracts from hell.

If that is truely all they see then they are not doing enough research on the issue.

Of the 4 I talked to, all CA's, they weren't voting, so basically a "no" vote. They all feel they're better off than other regionals without ALPA. They all saw them as a big scam...not my words, just the messenger.

Let it fail...if these guys can't understand the security that ALPA can and will provide when needed, it's their fault.

And - it'll be the job of those that did support the ALPA drive to move onward ASAP.

I can tell ya right now we've got an OE CA who's butt was saved by ALPA. Here's why:

ALPA pushed to have our ASAP program installed in order to spot trends (anonymously) in order to improve over all safety. Well, this guy had an FO for IOE, and she messed up the landing pretty badly....as in things scraped runway that aren't supposed to. They were ready to hang this guy out to dry....then they saw the ASAP data. Normal rudder pressures were in the 5 psi range. This crazy loon of an FO hit FIFTEEN PSI on rudder inputs 5 feet off the ground. It all happened in less than 2 seconds, and all agreed that even though he had his feet on the rudder pedals, there was little if anything he could have done in order to avert the scrape. So, he gets to keep his job and no paperwork filed. Why? B/c the ALPA program showed there was nothing he could have done with hard data. Without that, the company woulda strung him up (even more so since he's pretty outspoken).

This is what I don't get with Regional pilots. If you don't like ALPA - what Major carrier are you planning on working for? Because I have news for you - the majority are ALPA represented!! Why not become a member of the Union that you will eventually be a member of anyway?

Such poor, lame excuses not to vote. The same excuses that Colgan pilots used and look at us now, Mike Colgan already stepping down and PCL management taking over. Only a matter of time before we get the big rod that is Pinnacle shoved up our.....

Don't vote. Don't care about your career. Don't care about the industry. Don't care about anything but yourself. And don't expect a jumpseat on my flight deck someday.

Don't use rational thought Airdale.

Especially talking Unions to those from the state of Utah.

They are the devil. (Unions, to those from Utah. . .my experience has shown).

I've even heard that some spouses won't allow their spouse to work at a Union company, go figure.

Nice story, except it's seemingly about FOQA not ASAP

ALPA is a huge factor in why I am where I am at in my aviation career. No question about it... they saved my butt.

I would have been vindicated in time if things had run their course (also thanks to ALPA and that I was standing up for what is right...), but I didn't have that kind of time. It's a mistake not to have their representation.

Yep.. that's FOQA data. That was likely reviewed after his submission of an ASAP report and subsequent meetings with the pilot and ALPA representation, though.

OK. . . Why would you make a blanket statement like that about every professional pilot in this state? That just took the SkyWest ALPA thing in a weird direction. Give the drive the chance to tally the votes before you start throwing out judgement. I don't think the pilots in from this state are more anti or pro union than any other. My experience with union attitudes at SKYW or any other pilots from SLC does not support your comments here.

Three points:

1) The Ballot credentials were mailed by the NMB on the 9th. Unless the U.S. Mail has improved considerably, it's doubtful that any pilots have yet received the Voter Identification Number (VIN) and Personal Identification Number (PIN) required to cast a vote over the phone. Without the VIN and PIN, nobody could have voted.

If a SkyWest pilot has not received Telephone Voting Instructions and VIN/PIN by October 15, he should immediately request duplicate telephone voting instructions and duplicate VIN/PIN from the NMB. That information is required to vote. To receive duplicate telephone voing instructions, a request must be made personally, in writing, from the NMB before November 1, 2007. (Download a ballot request letter here.) Members of the Organizing Committee and ALPA staff should be available in crewrooms beginning on the 14th to assist pilots who have not received the voting instructions complete the required paperwork and FedEx them to the NMB.

This and more information available at www.skywestalpa.org.

2) There are roughly 2700 pilots at SkyWest -- how many of them participate at Jetcareers.com? I must wonder how representative or otherwise useful a poll here could be. Aloft, it would be more useful if only SkyWest pilots participate in the poll, but unfortunately ... well, you know.

3) The structure of this poll fails to recognize (or perhaps it's a failure to adequately emphasize) that a decision to not vote is identical to voting No. There is no way to abstain from voting, or remain neutral. A pilot must either call the NMB toll-free at 1-877-NMB-VOTE (1-877-662-8683) and follow the voice prompts to cast a YES vote, or he/she will be counted as a NO vote. In that sense, everyone votes. There is no "I didn't vote, I don't plan to vote" option.

Be careful out there! Apparently there are video feeds from the SLC crew room to St. George.

My experience has shown...indicating, that a certain number of pilots who work for SKW, who also reside in Utah, are also strongly anti-union. They are, when it comes to their professions and careers, very independent of their needs and wants. With that being said, they have a larger willingness to allow their management to do what they want, when they want to do it, to them.

Not a blanket statement my friend, just simply how I call it - with the few SKW guys/gal I'm familiar with.
