Default Gleim or ASA?

Hi everyone, I'm curious which book you feel would be better for the ATP exam.

I used the ASA book, but ended up taking the test at ATP.

Avoid the books...get the CD's and study that way or go to ATP if you're in a rush. The books, from my experience, always get put on the back-burner and none of my buds that had the book ever finished doing the studying that way.

YMMV, of course...

www.faatest.com It's $29.95 and when I used it years ago it was packed full of good tools (quick study mode, test mode, subject mode, etc). I used it in conjunction with the big red Gleim book. I was cheap so took the test at a local FBO. I got an 83%.

Study tip: I skipped all the flight planning questions. It's a waste of time, IMHO. You go through the gozillion steps only to find that the answer you come up with is nowhere near the options in the question. There are only a couple that will be on the test so you can afford to miss those. For sure study the wt/bal questions. Once you go through a couple of those in the book and learn the ridiculous pallet formula, you'll be fine. I took the 121 version.

The problem with those "study guides" is they don't weed out the questions that only appear on the 121 test. The ATP isn't like the other writtens (private, instrument, commercial) the 1800 questions that make up the ATP test bank are all put into one big "ATP test bank" and the different tests (121, 135, etc.) come out of that one bank.

The problem is out of the 1800 test questions is that one big bank, only 700 of them are used on the 121 written. Why study 1800 questions when you can just study 700? That's what you are paying your money for. Companies like Sheppard Air have reduced those 1800 questions to just 700 that could actually appear on the ATP written.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I think it would make the most sense to study only the questions that pertain to 121.

I used the ASA test prep software. It was the first time I used anything non-Gleim, and I'd use it again over Gleim.
