So, last week I was on Day 4 of a four day. It had been one of those trips from hell. Weather, cancelations, bad airplanes. And to top it off the last turn of the four day we get an airplane with no APU, so we need an external airstart and crossbleed start. also, the pressure refueling system was MEL'ed so we had to overwing refuel. It is a painstaking process. The imbalance between wings cant be more than 1000 lbs so the fueler has to alternate from one side to the other, and it takes a while to get the 10000 lbs on board that we needed. So, we were scheduled to land at 8pm. The last flight home left at 840. After all the shenanigans getting gas, and starting the engines, once airborne the FMS was telling me we would land at 840. so much for making it home tonite. Well, the weather shifted and closed our arrival, giving us the option to take a shortcut and come in the backside. We also had been assigned the runway with the nice scenic taxi.....we get established on downwind and atc asks us what side we want. We end up getting the runway that puts us right into the ramp. bingo, save me another 5 minutes. So, we land at 830, taxi in and block out at 835. I check with ops and my flight is waiting on ice, so, I finish my stuff and grab a tug driver. He races me over to the other gate and calls a sup on the radio. They approve to hold the push just long enough for me to get on. I jump in, throw my stuff in the closet, and strap into the jumpseat, and the crew still blocks out 1 minute early. To the ground people involved, and ATC.....thanks.
