Default ALPA Insurance Benefits

I'm wondering if some of you seasoned ALPA members could voice some opinions on the ALPA Insurance plans. I've sent away for the information, but I'd like to hear the word on the street.

Any of you carry any of these over "third party" plans?

Loss of License, Plus, and Lump Sum
Term Life Insurance (I currently pay $90/month for ~$350,000 me and $200,000 for my wife)
Short-Term Disability
10-Year Level Term Life
Long-Term Care
AD&D

Thanks!

I have no dependents so I'm not really in the same boat as you are but... from what I have heard from guys who do have dependents, you can mostly get a better deal elsewhere. The loss of license insurance seems to be the one that everybody carries.

I don't have any of the ALPA insurance. They enroll you in the plans automatically, so I was paying out for insurance for six months before I just stopped and the plans were canceled.

I have just gone with the company insurance plans. The Loss of License insurance is one I might consider. That's about it.

Keep in mind that ALPA loss of license insurance isn't exactly loss of license insurance, it's loss of medical insurance! Big difference, and, in my opinion, it should be marketed as such.

You'll find better deals elsewhere.

That seems high. I pay $531 for $400k (AOPA/Minnesota Life), and my wife is $360 for $500k (her union/Minnesota Life). Both 20-year level.

You can easily shop around for term life to see if you can do better.
