Just got based in LAX and wondering how the commute from Las Vegas would be? There is quite a few daily flights but I have no idea how booked they are since its a pretty popular destination??? No way I can afford to live in LA on first year F/O pay...and I really like the Henderson/Vegas area so I am considering moving there to at least be closer. Any suggestions?? ![]() Or any other tips on "desirable & affordable" places to move to be closer to the LA area with an easy commute? I lived in Redondo Beach for 6 months so I am somewhat familiar with the area. I am looking for a place with a lot of outdoor type activities. |

RPM, Easy commute....been doing it a few years now. WN, Ted, USAir every :45 or so. Of course Fri/Sat LAX-LAS flights are generally full, as is LAS-LAX on Sun. The non-rev listing # for WN is 866.359.7967. Good luck. |

Delta also has 2 ASA CRJ's a day and NW runs 1 319 each day. I looked out a week in advance on the delta flights, Durring the week is not much of a problem, the weekend traffic into LAS is where it hurts. Of course being the new guy you will be going opposite that traffic.

Like the others have said, no problem between LAS and LAX...lots of flights on lots of carriers........If you're really in a pickle, you can also do LAX to FAT, PSP, SAN, SNA, or ONT and get to LAX from there on skywest (or eagle from fat)..... i think mesa also does LAS to SBA, FAT, MRY and SBP.........you can get to LA from those places too..... |

I spent some time in El Segundo about 15 years ago. Love the area and the south bay. I looked at condo prices and I think the 2bd place I rented 15 years ago is going for 700K. Seeing as how I paid half of that for 10 acres and a 4000 sq foot house in Spokane, I don't think, even at my income level, I'll be investing in property in LA. The plan B? I'm gonna get a little motorhome for 5K and live in a van down by the ocean. I think even a AE reserve could do it. Prolly cheaper than a crash pad, even. See ya on the bike path... |

thanks guys... yeah DE727UPS...the little 3 bdrm place we were renting sold for about $1.1 MILLION when we moved out and that was in 2002. Its EXTREMELY overpriced there. I could have bought that same house in my Utah hometown for about $85,000...of course it wouldn't be across the street from the beach with beautiful half naked women walking through the yard daily though. Life is full of trade-off's.Fortunately I'm broke now so my decisions are easy. |

you could always drive if loads get full... it's about 3 hrs between the two cities depends, of course, on traffic and time of day travel.

Road WIDE OPEN, did help we left on a wednesday and sunday the other time. Thank you Radar Detector!!!! Some basic rules for doing the drive: Slow down by onramps/offramps, cops hide there. Keep it slow within 10 miles of any town/city. Keep in the right lane. Cops go more for the left as they know more people speed since you can pass. Find a bait car. If another car is going faster than you, keep up with him to an extent (about 1/2 mile back) and keep a little under his speed. He'll get ticket first, not you generally. By reading this you agree to this disclaimer that if you get a ticket and/or accident i'm not at all responsible. Stay safe! Speed limit is 75 so throw cruise on for 100 and you'll get there in about 2 hours and 30-45 minutes with no stops.

Yeap, from diamond bar, we hit the 10 and boom, 10 minutes later we're on the 15 and on the way to vegas. It helps if you avoid all stops if possible. Fill up the night before, and have everything in the car ready. Then boom get in the car, get some good music going and start a conversation. The drive feels actually pretty comfortable and if you just throw on cruise around 100 it's around 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there (from where i live, about 15 miles out from ontario). Good catch on the pacing thing. I've heard of cops pacing you behind a vehicle behind you. So he gets both of you, and you'll never know. I guess some of it is luck and some is skill. Not jinxing myself, but we have yet to be stopped.
