How much junk would you recommend packing? Anything that you'd consider a must-bring (besides the obvious). Wheels and CaptChris won't be on this trip, so I won't need to bring my iron maiden and sleep with one eye open .

As little as possible. The ammount of crap you'll start accumulating (and thus having to haul through security) will amaze you.

This is what I would pack -1 pair work pants -1 work shirt -3 white t-shirts -3 pair work socks -3 pair underwear -Gym Shorts -Jeans -T-shirt -Running shoes -Regular shoes -2pair regular socks -Toiletry back -If I have a long overnight someplace cold I'll bring a light jacket. Otherwise I'll just use my leather work jacket and take the bling off. |

I agree with the other advice - as little as possible. You'll accumulate crap as it is, I clean my roll-aboard out about once a month and you'd be amazed the amount of stuff that gets in there and that you don't need. If you're not used to packing check the Internet, there's all sorts of advice out there. Some I use. Roll clothes, don't fold them, thay take up less space. Pack stuff inside your shoes (socks etc.) I don't use a toiletries bag, I pack stuff in zip-top bags. So I have one for teeth stuff, one for eyes (contacts), one for deodarant etc. That way you can pack them in around your stuff if you run out of room. I used to be wet shave kind of guy (and if you're female I guess you can ignore this advice :-), but I went to an electric shaver on the road, much easier, even if it isn't as good a shave. Don't forget all your chargers etc. for cell phones - it sucks to be on the road 4 days and lose your cell phone half way through day 2. I just recently got on the portable DVD band-wagon - if you have long layovers it's a good way to see all those movies you don't have time to see anywhere else. But even the smallest ones are bigger than you may have space for, so decide wisely...... If you want to save money - food. I pack microwave soups, microwave rice, soup packets, nuts. If you're rich, ignore this advice as well.

Thanks guys -- Quick question: is the "hangar crew room" in PHL the only crew room in F, or is there more than one? Thanks! J. |

Do I even need to bring up the post about SCRAPBOOKING? Just enjoy man. I'm sure you'll keep us posted on all the details.... and Doug will probably have to create a whole new site just so you can write stories about scrapbooking and trips. Have fun, do what you have been practicing, and realize that this is the last TRAINING EVENT. Even IOE isn't exactly how it is on the line (at least from my experience), those capts are trained to put up with noobs. Then you get the grumpy guy your 1st trip off OE that hates flying, doesn't like you cause your young, and asks why you as for flaps 45 5nm from the runway---because there is no reason to be going 145 kts on a visual APR 5nm from the runway I won't mention any names, but that was my experience! You've already heard it a million times in training, "its a lot different on the line." Happy New Year.... can't wait to see the scrapbook of this weeks events. You will get along real good with 100% of our male FA's.

You want to remain happy.... drop your bags in the crew room, take a book/magazine and go find a corner to read. Or in your case you could cut pictures out of magazines, and take pictures of people walking through the airport for your scrapbook.

.C150 - Here's a tidbit of knowledge - vsi mode, climb power, at 4000' = 335 knots. Don't ask how I know that.

Ah yes, the "shared" crew room. It used to be nasty when Mesa used it, then we got it and it was actually pretty nice for a while. Mesa still used it (and provided free wireless). Then AWAC moved in and pretty much took it over. With all the glass (when it was clean) that was one of my favorite places to hang out late at night and watch the snow or rain fall. Do you guys have a contract clause that requires you have your own crew room? I had to edumacate one of your new FOs yesterday that I was in fact allowed in there even though I worked for the OTHER CRJ operator.

I sat down he approached me and I stuck up my hand and said, "if you have a problem with a Usairways Express Crewmember using a Usairways Express Crewroom why don't we call Doug Parker and see what he says?"

Oh, and don't give me that USAirways crap about your badge... If I recall you were the one that almost bumped me out of an AWA jump seat ORD-LAS My badge doesn't even say what airline I work for on it. Go figure.

I SWEAR it was the gate agent that filled out the Jumpseat form! I know my place when I jumpseat at Airways. We are below fully owned Express carriers! I think she liked me .Seriously, it is a HUGE pet peeve of mine when guys don't fill out what airline they really work for. We have carried a Commutcrapair FO a few times and he fills out the form saying he works at Continental. Seriously dude, you don't think we will know who you really work for? What are you trying to prove. I PROUDLY fill out the form as working for the toothpaste/water company airline. 9L is where its at.
