| At mainline and PDT it's optional, but for some strange reason it's still required at my company. There aren't too many uniform police out there, but if they saw me I'd get a citation. |

| Old Skool | Yeah, it's optional here as well. I think my kid wears it more than I do....

| We're supposed to wear them. I do cause I got no hair and, I must say, I look quite suave in my new Capts hat. But, to answer your question, in spite of the hat being part of the mandatory uniform, most guys don't wear it. |

Actually, our company offered to make the hat optional after mainline did away with it. However, they were going to take $25 out of our yearly uniform fund. Hmm... Hat costs $40 bucks and lasts for WAY more then 2 years. The union told them to forget about it.

| Agent Smith | I think the hat looks doofus in the summer uniform, I'd rather not wear it but we have a lot of uniform nazis that'll turn you in for not wearing it.

| Old Skool | At CAL it is a required part of the "winter" uniform, with the Blazer. Summer it is optional. Personaly it looks bad with the "summer" uniform, while the "winter" uniform is dufus looking without it.

| Agent Smith | It looks like you're a "skycap" with the summer uniform. "John's 757 had a dual engine failure, he deadsticked it on profile right into the touchdown zone and kept enough inertia to make it to the gate and deplane normally, what a guy!" "Is that Captain John, at the gate on the telephone with flight control without his hat on? The NERVE of some of these pilots, I'm going to go say something! Frequent fliers love the hats so dog gone it, you're gonna wear it! GO GET YER HAT ON!" Welcome to my world.

| Old Skool | The problem I have is that the uniform came from the military background of aviation, but as far as I know it is a serious no no to where cover inside. So in theory, even if you are wearing the hat it should come off any time you are inside. Defeats the purpose a bit. |

| Old Skool | Optional for us and I never wear it. |

Personally, I hate the hat and will typically only wear it when it's raining, or in the winter when it helps to keep my grape warm during the walk-around.....then, I love it. After all, sugar melts in the rain.....jk

| Agent Smith | My favorite: Just got thru dodging some thunderstorms enroute to SLC, held a little bit, and then had to go on the missed approach because some dingleberry decided to land long and miss all of the highspeeds (11,000 foot runway, maing!) came back around, had a RA from the TCAS, and finally landed. I'm running downstairs to change out of my monkey suit and a guy says, "Hey, where's your hat?" as I'm walking into the lounge. Hats just mean you work for a bankrupt airline! (think about it...)

| Moderator | I haven't seen Bill's hat in months. It lives in the trunk of his car. I think he wears it to work, but since I never see him at work I guess I really don't know!

| I know when I use to ride the employee bus to the lot many of the pilots didnt have their hats. I guess they left it in the locker. I guess though wearing that makes you look like you know what you are doing. Delta is such a pain in the butt, well at one time there were, about the uniforms being pressed and shoes shined even for ramp guys. I have seen guys come in on midnights when I first started and were given an amenity kits and told to go shave the stubble. In 15 yrs I only shined my shoes/boots 3 times that I can recall. The polish would wash off as soon as it rained.

| Old Skool | Is the blazer for southernjets and other 121 airlines year round or just winter uniform? |

| Max for Delta is jacket is winter attire. I believe it runs Nov-Apr or close to it. Its way to hot in Nov and Dec in Atlanta to need it though.

| Agent Smith | Halloween thru May Day. It used to be optional for a period of time but "Frequent Fliers Love the Coats!" even though there isn't a box on the Orbitz or Travelocity page that says "pilots wear hats and coats"
