"The pilots who fly these planes often do so for scant pay. In their profession, small cargo pilots are at the bottom tier." My favorite quote. ESF what do you think? |

I'd say that 90% of that article is BS and written by somebody that didn't have a clue about what they were talking about. As an example, I'd say 99% of aircraft in this country are 'legally' unairworthy. All it takes is one typo in a MX log or one static wick missing to make an aircraft unairworthy (according to the Fort Worth FSDO). |

![]() Personally I think the article is a bit alarmist (Cargo flying perilously under the radar, huh?) and probably applies more toward small 135 companies barely staying in business. But that can be true of the pax side of 135 as well. There are good companies out there.

Seems to be to say more about the author (young pup, trying despeartely to break in to the "expose" business) than the actual 135 operations, even though I really can't find any fault with the issues presented. I rather take issue with the tone. Besides, I'm not sure I really want hundreds of FAA sorts wandering around all those little "crappy" airports.

Wow, that article was full of BS as previously stated. I agree that the 135 side of the business is a little shady but I haven't seen anything that bad. If the planes are falling out of the air like they say, why hasn't it been all over the news? I got news the 121 guys (pax & cargo) have just as many repeat writeups as the 135 guys. We had a Saab (121 pax) that was written up about 10 times in a week for the same issue. It finally took the CEO of the company grounding the plane before the problem was fixed. This article sounds like the typical "the sky is falling" story where the papers are trying to scare the public. |

I'd say the tone is probably a little heavy on the doom and gloom/the sky is falling side. The facts, however, are the facts. The planes are old many times the mx is sub-par and the days/nights long. That being said not all companies are equal and he's definatly highlighting the worst of the worst. Texstar was the company that had the wing fall off thier 402. It is....what it is. |

.Anyone know/heard about a company called Execustar??? They were the worst of the worst. I think the FAA finally shut them down. Apparently they had private pilots flying their 135 runs. Flight Express and RamAir picked up their routesm after they closed their doors. And yes, no matter what the operation is, there is a lot of "down low" mx going on. It goes without saying that no cost is spared in mx is when it's a corporate bird with the CEO's on board. A mechanic here told the CA that he was told to pencil whip the mx log book to get the flight out on time. I'm glad there are mechanics out there that still have ethics. Needless to say we filled out an ASAP form so the FAA could roll some heads.

I love when reporters get a brief whiff of something and then make a huge deal out if spitting out stats left and right that most have no idea what they mean. It gets their article on the front cover. Chances are the person who wrote the article has only flown commerically and never sat foot in anything smaller than a turbo prop Saab or Brasilia.

Wheelsup, that's an unairworthy aircraft right there. No coffee? And they still flew it? I'm calling the FAA! They'd better have brought handheld reserves.

i just finished reading the entire series of articles this one article was based on and I'm kinda sick. My only hope is they don't do this same sort of thing for the regionals. I can't imagine what would be said about mx practices, low time pilots in the cockpit, the pinnacle crash and gulfstream academy, etc. etc.

I didnt even read the article, but lets be honest. 135 piston single pilot freight never has and never will be as safe as 121 turbine two crew passenger flying.
