Default River Visual Into LGA

Shot the river visual into LGA the other night. I never go into LGA, JFK, EWR etc. since we usually utilize Teterboro, White Plains and Morristown. Well, our passenger really "needed" to go into LGA, so we did. I've gotta say, what a killer approach, especially at night. Just beautiful.

Isnt it? I did it back in October of last year it was awesome......we were descending in the soup. Controller says

"Descend down to 4000, go direct statue of liberty and up the hudson"

We broke out at around 5 or 6k and right in front of us was Lady Liberty and Manahattan just up ahead to the right. It was super clear below the cloud deck. IT was amazing.

The Hudson visual for 22 may be my favorite approach. It isn't as fun to fly as the River Visual in DC, but there is a lot more time for sight seeing. I love flying it at night and trying to see what is on the big TV screen in Time Square as you go by.

Yeah, what you're calling the hudson visual is actually the "River Visual" to rwy 13. I was talking about LGA not DC.

As soon as the ATC system opened back up again...I flew up the Hudson at 4000' and looked straight down into the WTC site after 9/11/01. I was somewhat surprised they allowed traffic over that area...but then again that's the traffic flow into LGA.

But you're right. An amazing view.

My wife and daughters just spent the weekend in Manhattan. It's always fun.

Got ya you were talking about LGA. We don't have a plate for that approach, but I am assuming it is the one where you overfly the city from the airport and then turn back up the east river? I've seen it done while sitting in the back of a 1900 but haven't actually flown the thing.

I fly over LGA every night about about 2500' heading to teterboro. It really is cool seeing the city at night, esp. Times Square.

Visuals to 22 a couple months ago ATC instructed us to go direct to the Verazano(sp?) Bridge descend to 4000 fly up the Hudson and keep it fast. Nice view but it goes by quick at 250.

"Direct the Verazanno, over The Lady and up the river." EWR is a lot less interesting than coming into LGA every day.

One of my favorites is the Canarsie VOR approach to 13L into JFK. Nothing like flying a heavy jet by the seat of your pants with an overshooting crosswind from out over the ocean. And..."oh btw...any chance you guys can sidestep to 13R?"

One thing's for sure in the 757/767...if you can see the runway...you can land on the runway.

Is that the approach where there is no straight turns except for last like 2 miles of final?

Did you seriously just ask if there were no straight turns? LOL...yes, I think I knew what you meant, just struck me as funny. Carry on!

I never thought I'd say this, but from a 135 perspective I'd rather go into TEB! LGA's traffic and the parking/FBO situation is a PITA.

The River Visual would be cool, though!

Totally. TEB is a piece of cake regarding parking and departure and arrival delays, compared to LGA. That place sucks.
