Default Anyone work for Scenic airlines?

My biggest question is: is it even possible to commute? I know they have jumpseat agreements with a bunch of airlines but how hard is it to catch a jumpseat. If you live in AZ or CA (or a place that they fly to) would it be easier to commute? any advice would help. I have an interview just can't move to Vegas. Also any info on pay would be helpful. Thanks up front.

John (Pilot602) just hit the line there if I recall. I have a friend who got hired there at the beginning of the summer. They ended up moving to Vegas, although their plan was to commute origionally. I have heard of senior guys commuting, but I don't know the feasability when junior (hah... get the pun?) BTW, that's awsome you are at a point where you are about to start interviewing places. I don't know if you remember, but you and I started researching options to get training on this website about the same time. Congrats on making it to the next step.

I would say it isn't very likely, almost impossible.

I *think* FO's are on a 4 on 3 day off schedule. Captains are 5 on 2 off. Considering Captain upgrade comes rather soon, I'd say it would be impossible to commute and have a life.

My first instructor is a Capt. there, he commutes from SLC and it seems to be working out for him. (If you run into a captian named 'Zane' that's him) Seems like there's always a joke about pushing the 'big red button' whatever that means.

I also had another instructor who interviewed with them. They went over Jepp. approach plates in detail, something about one of the Long beach approaches that doesn't have an IAP on it and you just get cleared to the VOR (interviewed last year though so they might be doing something different) I haven't heard much about pay xept' it's low for first year FO.

probably not a whole lot of helpful info. but good luck on the interview!

thanks for the info. i'm still deciding if it's worth paying to fly myself out and all the other costs included in the interview process. seems like it would be a fun 1st job.

Bobduck - yeah i remember that we both were starting ATP around the same timeframe. correct me if i'm wrong but you trained in stuart right? I was in dallas. you working for xjet now? i decided to go another route other than teach at ATP. it is taking longer but i've enjoyed it.

That is a tough decision. I can't remember exactly but I think you sign a contract with them don't you? (1 or 2 years? I think you have to pay back some money if you leave early..) maybe someone else knows. Might be worth going just for interview experience.

here's some video of their operation:
http://www.flightlevel350.com/search...airline=Scenic

(the third and first video show flight operations pretty good..showing what you'd do as a co-pilot since there's no flight attendant)

I've also heard people have been going straight to skywest from there (they're not hiring right now but still..) not a bad idea. There's also salmon air you could check out.

I'm a YR First Officer.

We have guys that commute from ATL, Seattle, Utah, AZ etc. It just depends on how much you really want to do it but it IS possible. We're in the CASS system so jumpseating is pretty easy (realative to loads, etc.).

Pay for first year FO's is $13.60 per flight hour, $6.30 per duty hour, second year (if you make it that long) FO pay goes up to $16.60 and $8.30. "First year" captains make $24 per flight hour and $12 per duty hour.

So, if you work a 15 hour day and fly eight you'd get eight hours at $13.60 and seven hours at $6.30. If you sit reserve (we have no full lines of reserve everyone gets a few days here and there) you get your duty pay per hour for your RAP. However, if you go over a 12 hour duty day you get flight pay per duty hour over 12.

In the busy season (summer) it's easy to clear $1,000 per pay period as an FO. In the winter, not so much. We make $1,296 per month on our minimum - you get the minimum during training.

It's long days in the summer, all hand flown in and around the weather/IMC (when we get it I just did 5.1 hours of it yesterday) but it's worth it.

We do sign a one year contract for $7,000 pro-rated. If you leave at 6 months you owe half, etc. Upgrade is beasicalyl as quick as you can hit 1,500 hours and get an ATP.

So, what if somebody showed up with 1500 hours and ATP mins?

They've hired street captains, but usually it's higher than that. You'll basically upgrade as soon as your number (senority) is up. Senority moves fast around here ...

Not sure if they still have the 402, but they're operating out of Boulder City and have been bought by out by another company.

I just checked their website, scenicops.com, and the mins posted are 600tt, 400pic, and 50me. Appear to be strict on those times.

They are, if they go lower they can't get people to upgrade within a year which the whole operation kind of hinges on.

Oh and they're going 135 fairly soon. So that'll make attracting pilots even easier!

And a correction on my first, old post in this thread. Scenic is NOT in CASS they just have MANY, MANY reciprocal JS agreements. Don't know how 135 willl affect that but I doubt it'll change much.
