I heard a bad nasty rumor around the pilot lounge that TSA is seeking jumpseat access for their "agents" - has anyone else heard or can confirm this info?? It'll be a cold day down south before they ever sit on my jumpseat! It's amazing how fast you can drain the O2 to below the min required for 3 crewmembers. Jason |

I haven't heard anything, but I can go check in the chief pilot's office as I've got to go in there anyway for a recurrent CD. That would really suck. I don't mind ACI's (Air Carrier Inspectors), but it's a pain when you've got a ASI (Non-flying Air Safety Inspector) looking over your shoulder when he really doesn't know what he's looking at. Now a TSA agent? Geez, leave the jumpseat open for a crewmember trying to get to/from work/vacation. I can't see any reason to grant the TSA access to the jumpseat. Unless, of course the TSA is trying to use the 'free' nature of the jumpseat to avoid having to pay to shuttle agents between airports. |

What sort of "agents"? Air marshals are one thing, pax screeners another ENTIRELY.

[/ QUOTE ] As far as I know there is only one kind of TSA Agent - FAM's are a completley different program under a different branch of the government - I believe the FAM program is still under the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But I could be wrong - it has happened before......once back in '87. Jason |

Ok I just looked it up - they are both under the Department of Homeland Security but the FAM program is part of ICE not TSA. While the TSA has absolute power(meaning no oversight/appeals process) over my career they will never be on my jumpseat. FAMs can sit there any time they want although that would probably never happen - the whole point of their job is to ride in the cabin. Jason |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah that is a good one too but we have central load controllers and ACARS so that would be a tough one to pull off. Jason |
