Lets say 10 years from now everything is starting to get sweet and Fdx, NWA, Delta, Ups are hiring in good numbers. Do those places only hire guys with 121 and/or military experience, or are guys who have a 135 background and have like 2000 pic in a Learjet or Gulfstream equally regarded as someguy who has 2000pic in a erj or crj? Not that I even have gotten to close to flying any jet....I'm just curious.

I've always thought UPS did a good job, over the years, of hiring from various backgrounds. While I think heavy time, for example, makes your resume stand out, I think UPS will continue to hire from different backgrounds.

FedEx requirements are 1000 PIC jet or multi turbine. That and the degree, FE written (may not be required by then) and a recommendation. Question would be how much the latter item would be affected by the corp route, IOW, how much opportunity does the corp environment provide for networking?

<hijack> jonnyb, that's a nice little lear your driving. how old is it? just curious. it's great that you were/are able to give people a chance to check out the plane whenever you are in town. The little things like that keep poeple going when struggling through the training. If you ever make it to Minneapolis, drop me a line. </end hijack> |

When I say networking, I'm talking about to meet pilots that fly for FedEx currently, you need that to get a sponsorship.

I know what you mean Seagull. That's what I was talking about. FedEx or UPS might a little more difficult since they don't, or haven't been hiring as much the past few years. Several good friends I used to fly with or I met through charter and corporate flying are flying for several major airlines today. Some of them Captains and some FO's. I know how I used to be, so I'm glad to take the time. My airplane is a later model LR-55-ER. Matter of fact, I'll be in MSP on Christmas night. Don't know how long, or even if I'm staying the night, but I'll let you know. |

FedEx has been hiring at a good clip the past few years, perhaps you're confusing us with UPS?

Seagull, perhaps I was confusing the two, but that's not the point I'm getting at........ [ QUOTE ] Several good friends I used to fly with or I met through charter and corporate flying are flying for several major airlines today. Some of them Captains and some FO's. [/ QUOTE ] These are all possible letters of recommendation. |

That's good, as long as you have the recommendation letter that works.
