does anyone know if there are many things for us to do if we follow our significant others to the academy? im still debating whether or not to go with my bf. i don't necessarily want to be away from him for 3 months but i also dont want to be a a town where i know absolutely noone and have nothing to do all day. are these any cool places to go? i hate shopping, hate the mall and dont like spending money i dont really have. so i guess that limits my options. haha. maybe some cool bookstores or museums or parks? if anyone knows please write back! thank you!

I'd say it's split about 50/50. In terms of stuff to do, I'm sure there is stuff to do, but to keep you entertained for 3 months? It's Oklahoma hehe My weekends consist of either studying with classmates or hitting up bricktown, a downtown string of bars. From what I hear, though, there are plenty of museums around central Oklahoma and you have Lake Hefner(spelling?) which is a pretty cool place to go relax at.I just googled "Activites to do in Oklahoma" and this site came up http://oklahomahomeschooling.org/50+...n_oklahoma.htmIn terms of to follow or not to follow, that is your decision...My g/f and I have been apart for the previous three months leading up to the academy, so three more months sucks, but is doable...OKC is nothing like gainesville

Ima go ahead and hijack this one really quick here but are there any gyms around there? I don't think a complex fitness center will really be of any use to me.

You could always get a job for the time you're down here. Among everything else, there's lots of Walmarts in OKC |

If all goes well and i end up in okc. I know i'm going to be spending some money coming back home on some free time... Can you find the spare time to make a flight back home? Is it plausible?

It's plausible, but I would not reccomend it. The state of the airlines with flights being cancelled, I would say don't do it...the faa will not take into account that your flight was delayed or cancelled if you miss monday...if anything, bring them to you...safer that way.

I apologize for butting in, I don't usually post here and my DH is a pilot not ATC, but we live in Tulsa, so I have a little perspective for you. The Zoo in OKC is great -really, really great. There is the bombing Memorial -depressing but incredible nonetheless, and the National Cowbay Hall of Fame and Museum. The Cowboy Museum is more than you'd expect with fantastic displays of western art -most of which can appeal to more than just westerners. Also, google the Omniplex and see what the admission prices are. They always have really good things to do and see. The area around OKC has several universities which usually equals stuff to do -not to mention the military bases. Bricktown is a little more extensive than described above, with a baseball park, and loads of resturants and bars (definately check out Chellanos for awesome Mexican food). I'd say if you have the opportunity to go you should. Can't beat the weather here -except maybe for July and August b/c its so hot but there is A/C everywhere. The rest of the year is pretty mild (to a girl from Upstate NY) except for the odd ice/snow storm. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. Jackie |
