All, Has anyone recently completed the Academy or currently enrolled? I have a question in regard to travel. In the announcement, it states the following: Skills training related to the work of air traffic control specialists in air route traffic control centers. Newly hired ATCS's will be paid long term expense rate (per diem) for Oklahoma City, OK to help offset daily cost of living while attending FAA Academy. The FAA will also pay for cost of travel in accordance with applicable agency travel policy. In regard to travel expenses, do they reimburse you for the cost of moving your items to OKC, then your facility? Can someone explain how this will work? Also, I know this has been posted several times, but there have been several answers ranging from $8.50 - $10.50....how much do they pay while at the academy. I know the $79.20 a day per diem (I believe it was answered that that is 7 days per week, but I am attempting to do the math and would like a definitive answer. One more. What is the average amount of money people are bringing out there in order to float expenses until they start receiving their pay and per diem? I hope they hotels/apts are working with these trainees and understand payment schedules, etc. |

There's been a lot of different threads on this subject, but the responses given summarize something like this: 1. You are eligible for the per diem one day before class starts. 2. Pay is $18,500 (or whatever it is), plus the OK locality pay ... which is how people are figuring out about $10.50/hour. 3. A lot of the FAA housing doens't require a deposit from what I'm seeing...someone said you pay in two week increments...which is how frequently you can put in your housing receipts. 4. The only travel reimbursement is either: mileage, or cost of the flight flight (which I believe is set according to the government schedule). You will get the lesser of the two. So, if you move furniture and the like, it seems as though you won't get any reimbursement for that. |

does anyone know anything about the housing? I have a dog and don't really want to leave him here for 4 months.... otherwise I was thinking about just taking 3 weeks worth of clothes and necessities, renting a bed and chair for 3 months... seemed like the cheapest option. |

| I'm a late one, I needed the one in Los Angeles so I'd be somewhat close to home. So I'm not going until June 16.

I was referred to Cleveland Center. I will be at the Chicago PEPC on the 19th as well, and I have also not been given an exact time. I am assuming 8:30 - 9 AM.

I'm not positive but I believe I've read in here that the PEPCs start at 7a.

They do start at 7 although your personal start time can be different. They'll break you down in groups of about 12-15 people and each group starts an hour to an hour 1/2 after each other. You're HR rep will give you your start time. Back in April in Fort Worth, I started at 10:30am. You're HR rep will give you your start time.

On the link provided above it has long term and short term rates. What constitutes long term?

I believe that long term is anything over 30 days. All of the ATC stuff in OKC should qualify as long term.
