What do you prefer pilots say when they switch from tower to departure on an ILS flight plan. I have heard that when a pilot says "N8998 with you at..." it bugs the controller. Any thoughts?

While I'm not an ATCer, I tend to go for "XXX departure Cessna 1234 Level at 3000", or "XXX departure Cessna 1234 1,400 for 4000". If I already have direct to a VOR, or a heading before going to departure something like "XXX departure Cessna 1234, level 3000 direct ACO" comes out, at this point departure can give a simple roger Cessna 1234. That method seems not too piss any ATCers off. |

I've only been an ATCer for little under 2 years, but it's never bugged me. However, personally...I do like when a pilot says his heading or direct XXX if he was assigned one prior to departure. That's just me.

While I'm not a stickler I do prefer all the pertinent info in a manner that is not confusing or one I have to question. You check on level say N12345 level at flight level two three zero, or with you at flight level two three zero... If you are climbing say the altitude your leaving and your assigned altitude. With you leaving seven thousand for one four thousand... and any pertinent info, two fifty knots, heading to join XXX... |
