Can approach open a VFR flight plan

Hi. I fly out out Charleston Executive (JZI) and we are right next to International (CHS) class C. If going north I have to call approach right after takeoff and I am not able to open my flight plan with the FSS, can approach open the plan or do I have to wait untill I'm through the C and call the FSS, then call approach again for flight following? Thanks.

Ask for FF THEN ask to leave the Freq. to open you flight plan.

I doubt that they can... at the center we cannot. I don't even have a line to call FSS. I like what BajtheJino said... get flight following and ask to leave the freq. GA pilots often ask to leave the freq even if IFR to talk to FSS about wx or other info.

Sidenote and personal pet peeve, if you have dual comms stay on the freq and monitor, while using the other comm to talk to FSS. All the time I hear pilots ask for a temp. freq change when they have 2 radios.

If it's slow enough for me I'll say I can open it for them. I just dial FSS and open it.
