Hello, Im trying to piece together the ATC jigsaw puzzle so bear with me My question pertains to VFR flight following and who to contact. My understanding is, if I am not near a Class B, Class C or any other area that offers radar services then I should contact the nearest Center listed in the A/FD. And if I am near a B or C, then contact them. Is this correct. And the worst thing that can happen is the Center or Approach tells me to contact someone else correct? Thanks for your time.

Yes... Sectionals will also list frequencies for geographic areas.

| Don't contact a controller whose sector you don't currently reside in... Basically, research the frequency before you call anyone.

Right, so if your airport isn't located in the back of the A/FD in the ARTCC section then just find one of those airports that is closest to you correct?

I don't have an AFD in front of me, but on each airport's space, it should have an APP/DEP frequency that you can call.
