this forum is definitely a good idea. I do a lot of IFR on the east coast and I would like to say that NY Approach is by far the best set of controllers I've had the pleasure of working with. I'm not flying anything remotely like a jet, but they do a great job of working you into high volume areas like Teterboro and the suburban area. I think ATC is good pretty much anywhere I go, but one time I noticed that this NY Approach guy was vectoring me around some nasty buildups without me asking him to. How do they do that? I kind of thought that Centers had wx capability but approach controls didn't. Anyway, this dude was really on top of his s**t and brought us in to HPN without seeming very strained about it at 5pm on a thursday evening (which is a nasty time to go in there btw). The Oshkosh controllers are amazing too on a whole different level. Good choice for a new topic board... I'll be back.

Cool. I'm thinking about transferring to hpn since i'm from the upstate area just north of westchester. Weather displays have come a long way these days. In our tower we have the arts system now (finally got it) and it shows 5 levels of wx intensity. mostly moisture buildups i believe. Still useful for seeing stuff 60 miles away!
