i was in same situation until couple of weeks ago, but didnt have the financial cabability of doing all those visits.
instead, i spent hours and hours online and it also took me quite a few months to understand what im looking for and y.
my task was easier though since im an international and was looking for a JAA approved school.
Im going to OFT in a few months. they do atpl ground school in orlando and prices look ok.
focus on your training and care less about the environment around you.
its what you really want and you should leave no barrier distract you...
