Re: A ? for Boeing and Airbus guys... A PACK is an air conditioning unit in a jet. I believe it stands for "pneumatic air conditioning kit"...but maybe I'm making that up.
The PACK works by the compression and expansion of air...thereby causing cooling in the process.
A PACK consists of heat exchangers, a compressors and a turbine. Engine air from the compressor is routed to a heat exchanger to for cooling and then is compressed by the compressor. A second heat exhanger cools the compressor air before it is routed to a turbine. Here the air rapidly expands and cooling is the result.
