As was said already it is not easy getting into the "air freight" business because most of those positions are already filled with that cairriers own eqiupment.

That being said. fed ex "ground" is still an all "owner operator fleet" Only problem with that is the size truck in your picture would still be the residential/business delivery type trucks.

DHL is using contract carriers as well.

Another avenue might be doing "hot shot" type work. Which is basically expidited delivery. You get the call for a pick-up and your job is to run it direct to the customer...where ever they may be ASAP!
