Default Re: Any air ambulance pilots on here?

On his days off, a former co-worker of mine flew helicopters for the guard, flying mostly medevac stuff. One thing he said was that he did NOT get involved with what was going on in the back. He did not want to know the patient, or what the injury/sickness was. He focused solely on flying. He didn't want his aeronautical decision making to be influenced or distracted.

It makes sense. Years ago, I read an article in Flying about a crash that involved a medevac helicopter. The pilot flew in weather he shouldn't have been flying in because, as we all would be, he was concerned for the patient. I can't remember if the helicopter was actually carrying a patient at the time or if it was enroute to the patient, but the everyone on board (may have just been the pilot) was killed.

Something to think about if medevac is your interest.
