My thought was it was more like when you see someone online (why CAN you by the way...?) you can instant message them... only a one on one deal (block em if they harass you).

You can always PM someone. Also a user has the option of not being visible in the "Members Online" section, so even though they may be "online" here at JC, they're not visible (with the green dot or their name in the users online).
Just add your AIM screen name to the thread in "networking".
You can always invite yourself to the AIM chatroom "jetcareers" anytime and see if someone/anyone is there. If you're really bored you can put a post in the lav saying "AIM chat anyone?", usually people will bite on it
It's just too much hassle to include a chat room in the JC umbrella, the mods have enough to watch with the boards, there'd be no way we could moderate a live chat room. The logistics are just too much. Using an AIM chat room allows even the mods to be there and just chat like everyone else! And yes, the mods have been known to be in the JC chat, often! But, we're not mods there
