Re: spoon feeding flight schools I took lots of formal ground school classes through community colleges near my house. That prepared me for the concepts, bookwork, and oral prep. Then I went to the local FBO, found a good instructor to teach me the maneuvers and presto!
I would not hesitate to do it this way again. A private pilot ground school class at a community college in CA runs about $150 for the semester (approximately 16 weeks and 4-5 hours of instruction per week). In my opinion, worth every penny. You would end up paying a "flight instructor" at least $30 an hour for one-on-one ground instruction. You do the math! |
