I partially agree with you tony. However, the only thing that prevents a buisness model that works is ultra low ticket prices. Charge an appropriate rate for tickets and you cover the cost of fuel.
If under performing (and undercutting) carriers go tu, it could well lead to a situation that the remaining carriers no longer have competition and can charge an appropriate rate for their tickets.
I don't really see the government getting involved in an anti-trust battle considering the state of the airlines post regulation.
Of course, I could be wrong.....
