Hello all:

Before anything I would like to say thank you for creating this wonderful community.

Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to be a pilot. I still remember how I would observe the planes that passed over my small town in my former country at very high altitude but visible enough for me to look at them for a while and dream about being in them. Because of circumstances out my control becoming a pilot started to become something no more than a dream as I grew older. I found love for computers/math and that became my new carrier goal. My connection with aviation was not lost completely since flight simulators are computer programs. So aviation was still in the back of my mind.

My family and I got lucky and got the opportunity to come to this wonderful country(U.S). Thanks god!. We came two months after 9/11 so that did not help the whole aviation thing for me. I did not have the courage to tell my parents at that time that I wanted to be a pilot specially at that time. If I would have known more about how to become a pilot at that time and not recently(age 21) I probably would have gone to the air force (at least tried).

I graduated from high school and went to a university to pursue a career in Computer Science thinking in my head that, that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. What a fool!

One day at work I decided to type "How to become a pilot" in google and that was it. At first I was very overloaded with all the information and thought that it was still out my reach still but the more I read the more I wanted to do it and the more it seemed for me to be able to do it. Ever since that day I have been in "the planning part of the plan"(some comedian said this) of making flying my career.

I have been a member for while and visit this site every day(as long as my computer does not brake or I find myself in a remote area with no internet). I have gather a great deal of information(great information) from this site and I consider this site the king of all sites. I was following the habit that I have built over the years whenever I joined any computer related site. "Search, Search then Search and then when you are done Searching. Do it again." But this is not a computer site. Is it? My questions are very personal(unless I have double that I don't know about) so following my habit for computer sites is not going to help here or make no sense either. So here I am looking for help and advice.

I'm 21 years old. I'm expecting to graduate in January 09( I was suppose to graduate in may this year but playing a Division I sport for my University did not help me at all plus some extra classes that I had to take to bring my English level up) with a major in Computer Science and Minor in Math. I already became an U.S Citizen. So it seems to me that all it is left is to find the money(since I don't want to take loans) to pay for my training and go from there.

I'm planning on keeping my current job because there is a chance that they will offer me a full time position when I graduate. I see potential for good income and enough time off to do my training in that job. I was considering also another job maybe working the lines. I'm willing to learn anything but I think they would take me as a geek or something. I hope to find a line job that I could do Saturdays and Sundays. Any advice on this would be welcomed

I live in Newark, NJ area so looking for school has also been part of the plan. The reasons for staying in NJ and no moving to Florida with my parents is to become independent and also because I once was told by a Pilot(nice man, gave me two magazines, stupid of me did not get his personal information) that schools in here(NE coast) were good in term of training because you get to experience bad weather so it is good for your instrument skills. I'm very serious in what I what I want to do and I consider instruments skills very important and I want to experience the real thing no some simulated thing. I have no real flight experience. All the flight that I have done is in a flight simulator(www.x-plane.com) and as a passenger.

I can't seem to make my mind yet between "Century Air" and "Air Fleet Training". Any advice from those that are familiar with those schools would be appreciated.

So yea...this is my first post. Thank you for your time and knowledge. I wish you could log the time you have spent reading this post(if you read everything) but I don't think you can.
