I don't THINK I've ever taken this test before, but to me, it appears that these are mostly word problems having to deal with different ratios, which does apply to flying somewhat, in terms of the arithmetic involved. There's one or two questions on the PPL written that are similar in the way you have to calculate, as well.
There are a bunch of questions similar to this in the Logic section of the LSAT, which I have taken, and I'm assuming they're testing for the ability to extrapolate the relevant numbers and crunch them. Just a guess, though.
