Re: Hail to the Chief!
This is strictly a timebuilding job, my predecessor hit 135 IFR mins and got himself a 135 job.
The "additional duties" mainly consist of keeping tabs on the other 8 pilots scattered across the country, handling the daily activity reporting for the pilot group (cake if one is at all adept with Excel...and I is), and "liaising" with our customer. My intention is to be a little more proactive than previous CPs here, starting with implementing a flying safety program in hopes of fostering a more safety-oriented culture within the company. The company lost a pilot and his aircraft last season, and hopefully I can help that from happening again--at least on my watch.
The pay is in fact better, though how the QOL will change remains to be seen; it's still a 100% on-the-road job, I'm still living out of a suitcase. Really, for anyone with any leadership or management experience, the additional workload is trivial. I just have a greater say in our operations now than I did before, improved job security (I can now stay as long as I want/need to...important given the current hiring situation in the industry and the seasonal nature of the job otherwise) and a nice title bump for the resume.
