While the GE 90 is awesome (and my favorite engine.) I hear that with the future next gen planes (A350 & 787, or a 777 replacement) engines with the thrust output of the 90 (115,000 lbs of thrust each side) won't be necessary.
So future planes with their composite structures engines need only be in the 60-73 lbs. of thrust range.
Anyone else heard the same?
Also, what are the specific technical details about the new "geared fan" turbofan, and how does it work different in relation to the more standard fare high bypass turbofan?
