Back in 2000 I was paying $65/hr for a new 172 @ ERAU. 1 year later it was $80, and the next year it was $105. The biggest increase in cost came from soaring insurance costs after 9/11. Fuel prices were relatively stable at that point.

ATP's multi is what, around 10 hours? 10 hours x 20 gph = 200 gallons of fuel. Going from $1/gal to $4/gal would've only increased their costs $700. I wouldn't worry too much about oil prices when figuring to sit out or not. Just IMO .
