Commuting to any of the three NYC airports on RJs is darn near suicidal.

Lots of O&D traffic, meaning lots of early shows and late releases

Ground stops daily, plus you get the shaft because your flight only has 50 people while the mainline flights have 150.

High COL so lots of people commute.

There are quite a few CAL guys up here that have a 400 mile commute. The easiest way to get to work most of the time is drive. The physical distance of a commute has little bearing on the overall ease of the commute.
