Head over to Exec 1 Aviation at KIKV and talk to Barney (he is the owner) about flight instructing. I learned to fly there (in fact, they still have all of the same aircraft I flew), and it is a great company and airport. There is another flight school just south of Ankeny, though it is a smaller, private strip and their aircraft are not as nice as Exec 1's aircraft. I have flown into Ames many times on charters, business, and pleasure and just never saw much flight training.
You could also look up at Webster City (
