Pilots tremendously underestimate themselves, and quotes like this give non-aviators the wrong idea about our jobs. Yes, it's not that hard to FLY ANY airplane when you do it day in and day out and have a good foundation of knowledge. Give the same task to a non-pilot and they'd probably eventually go through the motions, but I highly doubt their decision making is anything like that of someone who's been there and done that.

Most jobs are "easy" when you're a professional. Writing an application for a arrest warrant is "easy" if you're on a fugitive task force while others may struggle. Conducting out-patient surgery is "easy" when it's your forte. I'm not saying this is rocket science, but give yourself a little credit!
