Cost Index is a number derived from a formula. The formula is operating cost ( $/hour ) over fuel cost ( cents/pound ). Only those portions of operating cost affected by trip time should be included in the calcualtion ( i.e. cost of crew/hour, maintenance, etc. ).

lets say operating cost of 300 by fuel (6.48 a gallon, so lbs is .92 cents) comes way off though?
