Default Re: Slow page loads and Posts

With regards to Opera it would depend on how it blocks the ad's that counts. If the browser loads and executes the JavaScript but you don’t see the images (perhaps a red X in a white square) the java is still being run. Good point about the lack of uniformity of page loads... why so quick... why so slow ??

In another tab I have the aviation thread open..

This is at the bottom..
src='http://www.jetcareers.com/phpads/adframe.php?n=a0a41be0&amp;what=zone:3&amp;source= jetcareers&amp;target=_blank&amp;refresh=120' framespacing='0' frameborder='no' scrolling='no' width='468' height='60'><a href='http://www.jetcareers.com/phpads/adclick.php?n=a0a41be0' target='_blank'>

So the adds are generated from the addframe php script in what looks like a frame. I wonder if frames are processed in a hierarchy...therefore the add frame is near the top and any delays hold up the whole page load.... but this is speculation!!

tracroutes help where there are network issues. However ICMP (Internet Connection Management Protocol) is normally weighted as a low priority therefore the results can be misleading (traceroute and ping use ICMP) but it can be a piece of the puzzle. Also I suspect that the host that we ping is just the wan side of a load balancer so we are not reaching the actual www server.

Having had to trouble shoot networking and systems related issues before tracerts and pings are always welcome.

..
I kinda prefer the graphing tool that I used (cacti) because it ignores all the java and just grabs the content.
