Recently I've been toying with the idea of maybe looking for work in Alaska. |
The summers in anchorage stay a balmy 75, and the winters in anchorage usual drop off to around -10 at the coldest for a couple of weeks. Expect wx just a little colder than seattle, if you live in anchorage. The interior, and west ak get colder than hell quick.
As for flying conditions, couldn't as for better, must of the wx is VFR during the summer, the only really IFR times come around march in spring, and september and october in fall. When winter comes into full swing its usually too cold for hard core solid IFR for more than 2 days. The flying is great, and fun. You can legally land on roads, gravel bars, anything pretty much. Most people like airplane noise. However, if you've ever used your certs to woo a girl, don't count on that up here. It seems like everyone and their brother is a pilot, and most people can recognize and identify a super cub.
