As far as power off 180's...nobody said they had to be super soft. Turn in early, dump full flaps and the gear when you're getting close, and fly that mofo onto your spot! Just kidding...sort of. |
That's true though, and something that my CFI had to drill into my thick skull. I kept trying to nail my 180 pwr offs and short fields with nice, soft flared landings. Not at all necessary... Just flare enough to arrest the sink rate. You might still be going faster than optimal for a real appch, but YOU CAN hit the PTS mark - and that's what matters for the comm and CFI.
