Wow, you sound like me in 1985. I remember feeling like I came a long way through the process. If they had just made the final week a little easier....
Anyhow, only about 20% of my class got through the screen. I did just well enough to be offered an ATA job at LA TRACON, and did that for about a year. It's was a great experience, I wouldn't trade it for anything, but all the controllers told me I should get back into flying. Which I did.
Was one of the smarter moves I ever made...
