UND isn’t a “best fit” for everyone, and neither is the FBO route. Keep in mind that if you chose the FBO route (and if the school there is part 61) you’ll end up having to acquire more flight hours to be eligible for the commercial certificate. (minimum times for Part 61=250TT, Part 141=190TT).

I personally didn’t have a problem going through the UND system, but I wouldn’t trade the experiences that I had flying here and there outside of UND to mix it up a little bit (or the experience I had working outside of UND). Result: less time to get the commercial certificate and experience flying (and working) outside of UND.
you are correct, and when it comes down to cost it is fairly similar for each, unless you do your CFI training while doing your commercial, etc and you can get it all done in about 250 total, which is about where you come out at UND give or take a few for the same certs.

but each has its +'s and -'s. i only came to UND because i was sold on "it was the best" and when i chose UND i wasn't in the best mindset for choosing what was best for me, i just chose something. i don't completely regret going to UND, just how i made my decision to do so
