All the karting places in CA seem to be doing well. They've been open for quite a few years. They're always busy at any time of the day. It could be a fad though - who knows.
I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to go karting - if more people went, they'd be able to lower the price a bit to make it more affordable for everyone. It's expensive as it is. Believe it or not, renting a Cessna 172 is about the same cost and provides about the same thrill.
